FAQ

What is sensory play?

At Minnie, sensory play is at the heart of everything we do. Sensory play focuses on activities that engage your child’s main senses: sight, sound, taste, touch and smell. Through engaging in these senses, children develop language skills, motor skills, cognitive growth, social & emotional development and learn experimentation.

To some, making a dish in our imaginative kitchen may look simple. At Minnie, we see this as an opportunity for creative exploration and growth. This type of play targets language skills as your child expresses the different ingredients in their dish, helps them to navigate working cooperatively with new friends by taking orders and cooking, and strengthens fine motor skills and math skills by measuring and pouring dried foods.

At Minnie, sensory play isn't just fun, it’s a foundation for growth and discovery.

Why is sensory play important for development?

Sensory play is vital for a child's growth, development and the way they see and experience the world around them. We don’t often think of play as a means for education and early childhood development but it is crucial for helping build nerve connections in our brain’s pathways. This stimulation of multiple senses at once strengthens the brain's ability to process complex information, building and reinforcing neural connections between different parts of the brain. The more pathways that get activated, the stronger and more efficient the brain becomes at processing all kinds of sensory data. A child with strong neural pathways is often more well-rounded, capable, and adaptable in both academic and social environments. They tend to approach life with confidence, curiosity, and emotional balance, making them equipped for a wide range of future challenges.

At Minnie, we believe in the transformative power of play and how it shapes a child’s development, setting them up to thrive intellectually, emotionally, and socially for the rest of their lives.
